We all love receiving flowers. It brightens up our moods and brings to life the space around us. Placing them in a large vase of water does not allow for freshly cut flowers to live up to their full potential. Here are six ways in which you can prolong their lifespan.
#1 CLEAN LOVING

Make sure that minimal bacteria gets to your flowers by scrubbing your vase squeaky clean. Using hot water and dishwashing liquid scrub it down and finally use some white vinegar to make sure any dirt elements are removed.
#2 CUT THE STEMS

Usually when you receive flowers the stems are cut evenly. By additionally cutting your stems around 2-3 cm from the bottom at a 45 degree angle in order so that the stems can be exposed to water without any potential air pockets aiding their intake of water.
#3 ADD SOME SUGAR

Place a teaspoon or two of sugar into the vase of water so that the bouquet can receive nutrients. Also a little bit of bleach also goes a long way in killing possible bacteria that may be in or around the vase. This can prolong the lifespan of your flowers for an extra seven to ten days.
#4 SPACE IS KEY

Try not to ram as many flowers as you can fit into your vase. This can damage the stems and also results in early wilting of your flowers. They need their personal space too.
#5 ALL ABOUT THE LIGHTING

It is important to keep your flower arrangement out of direct sunlight because this too is one factor that makes them wilt sooner than expected. Try to keep an eye on them and remove any dying buds as this keeps them fresh longer.
#6 FRESH WATER

Give your favourite flowers the nourishment and care they deserve. Be sure to change their water at least once every two days and if possible cut the stems at an angle as you do this.
